Week 12

 1. What did you do in Lab?

  • NASA images of change
  • Discussed the relationship between weather and climate
  • Discussed climate science
  • Group work to investigate rain fall in areas of Iowa
  • We found that precipitation is increasing in Iowa
  • Found that as temperature increases, evaporation increases and precipitation increases

2. What was the big question?

Is our state bird, the Goldfinch, in danger? How do we know?

Yes. Increased heat will have several health related effects on animals. 

3. What did you learn in Thursday Discussion?

We had a quiz in Discussion.

       1. What did you learn?

  • Weather is the short-term atmospheric conditions in an area like, "its raining" or "its sunny today". Weather can change day to day.
  • Climate is the usual weather activity that can be expected for an area and time of year. What happens usually.
  • L.O.W.E.R- Latitude, Ocean currents, Wind and air masses, Elevation, Relief
  • Climate change is happening right now in Iowa
  • The things we can do to address climate change

       2. What was most helpful? 

The impacts of climate change in Iowa. Climate change is usually thought of as something that affects areas near water, but it can and is happening locally here in Iowa.  

       3. What do you need more information on? 

I hope to become more knowledgeable about the things we can do to combat climate change. Having a strong knowledge of the actions we can take would be beneficial to take into a classroom so we can effectively teach students about the impact they can have.

 1. What did you do in Lab? Discussed the previous weeks homework, "Sweater Article" Learned about the law of superposition Rocks that are further down are older. This helps determine the relative ages of layers of rock. An intrusion is the youngest of the rock that it goes through Determined oldest -> youngest in layers of rock Discussed weathering and erosion the process by which rocks are attacked by the environment Characteristics of sand activity with a microscope 2. What was the big question? What are the different types of erosion and what do they form? 3. What did you learn in Thursday Discussion?
